Bike Description & Terrain

DESIGNED BY

Words from Spindatt himself:
"With the Norton, I wanted a frame with all of the modern features of popular/fun hardtails on the market, in a beginner-attractive package and price. That means boost spacing, tapered head tube, routing for a dropper post cable, 130mm travel, and more aggressive trail-focused geometry. Compare THAT to what every other company offers for beginners: a cookie-cutter XC bike with a straight steerer and quick-release wheels (hardly machines with any longevity).
The Norton’s geometry is inspired by more costly industry hardtails that riders are having the most fun on. The focus is to have something that can feel at home on most terrains.
Chunky descent? Sure.
Fast flow trail? Yes.
Urban Street Cruising? OK.
BMX tricks? Actually: yes.
XC Trails? Of Course.
Long Climb? If you must.
The Norton is perfectly reasonable."

Designed for a 150mm fork

Stock build has a 130mm fork but the axle to crown on that is more than my 150mm 34 fox fork . Measured angles 65 head angle and 76 seat with my 150mm fork (static) bike has a tall stack height , good for descents but not great for pedaling fast on flat terrain, surprisingly wheel flop is not an issue (this is something I don’t like about crazy slacked out bikes and this may just be the sweet spot for a a Hardtail, subsequently I feel the seat tube is too steep leading to an on the top, rather than in the bike pedaling sensation) . If you’re in between sizes , size up , this thing feels small I usually ride a large intense, I bought the xl Norton frame and this almost feels like a medium due to the steep seat angle.
Onto ride impressions , man the worst bike I’ve ridden, stack wayyy too high , bottom bracket way too low, pedal strikes galore, frame wayy too stiff tire clearance too small was only able to fit a 2.3. I was looking forward to riding this because I spend a lot of time speccing it , but ive never wanted to get rid of a bike so fast . Also no thru axle included ? I’ve never purchased a frameset without one included . Overall a bike that sounds great on paper but riding impressions not the best . If i were to design it I’d say make room for a 2.6, /or just make a 29er version ( I feel that whoever designed it was looking at 29er geo and just accidently made it a 27.5) lower the stack height by 30-40mm raise the bottom bracket by at least 1/2 inch slacken the seat angle by a degree and half. What people don’t realize on hardtails is as a bike pushes through travel the seat tube steepens , making for a riding on top feeling and not an
in the bike feeling.

Good value

The geometry met my needs for a custom build, and I like how it turned out. It's hard to find a thru axle frame at this price. The quality reflects the price, I'd say.
